The disassembly of the ski lifts of Ärnergale has made accessible a true gem of a summit for ski and snowshoe tourists. The former ski runs on the slopes with their advantageous exposure (good snow conditions) and the gentle decline offer wonderful powder descents down to Mühlebach at almost any time. The mountain hostel of Chäserstatt https://www.chaeserstatt.ch/ offers a number of rooms to spend the night.
Route description
Mühlebach – Ärnergale
From the parking lot at Mühlebach, formerly used by skiers (1230 m), ascend eastward to Restiwald in pastures. Then, on the forest road or the steeper summer path go up to Chäserstatt (1772 m). If you ascend on the monotonous forest road, you can take a short-cut through the sparse forest. More pastures, which used to be ski runs, open the access to the ridge close to P. 2276. Turn left and ascend the very long plateau of Ärnergale up to the highest point (2625 m).
Descent
On the ascent. From Chäserstatt, the descent leads along the forest road down into the valley. You cannot descend via the ascent route directly through the forest, it is too dense.
